Traditional Food in the Bahamas
While almost many types of food can be found in the Bahamas, fish is often the main ingredient for a tradition Bahamian dish.
One of the most favorite seafood is Conch, a mollusk. The meat is white and firm and can be made using many different ways, including stews, chowders, fritters and salads.
Most of the truly Bahamian desserts have coconut in them. In fact, it is found in everything from ice cream to tarts and is even used in cakes, puddings and pies.
One of the most common traditional Bahamian meal includes steamed fish with baked macaroni and cheese, potato salad or crab and rice. For dessert, it is common to have bread pudding, pineapple or coconut tart. A breakfast favorite is grits and boiled fish such as grouper.
