A Letter From A Concerned Applicant

Subject: Judging Criteria & equal opportunity.

Dear WWW Awards,

Please could you send me a copy of the WWW Awards judging criteria and guidelines.

I have tried to access this information on your website, but unfortunately the content in your text boxes is not being well received by my speech sunth program - I have very low vision.  I did try to copy and paste the text into Word, but it does not travel well!

I appreciate that a site of your nature would not expect to have a speech synth user, and I have heard many good things about WWWA, so I shall "let you off", if you would be so kind as to forward this info to me in document form.

I would also like to know whether my visual impairment is likely to hold my site back in judging, as I understand you place a great deal of emphasis - quite rightly - on original content.  Due to my visual impairment, designing graphics is not a possibility, beyond the very basic (as seen on my index page) with which I can integrate the JAWS or ZOMMTEXT speech systems.

I would be interested to know your thoughts on this issue - in this all-inclusive age we live with.

Many thanks,
Abby White.

Our Reply To Abby:

Dear Abby,
Thank you for your interest in The World Wide Web Awards.  First let me say, that your visual impairment will not hold your site back from evaluation or applying for our awards.  We took a quick look at the link you provided in your letter and your site certainly would qualify for our award.  Attached to this letter is a "Text" document with larger text of our criteria and judging point system.  Please let us know if it came out ok.  If not, we will be more then happy to provide you with a sound recording (sound wav) of our criteria.  It may take a few minutes to load, but we will gladly make one for you.
I would like to thank you for bringing this matter to our attention, because we overlooked the possibility of people who are visually impaired.  From that, I will consider adding sound wavs options to our site, for the visually impaired, as well as a special award program section that a person with visual impairments may apply.  We will implement a criteria with that in mind and hope to see your application soon!

Please let us know if the attached file is legible for you to read.

Again, thank you for bringing this matter to our attention and we will do our best to accommodate ALL applicants.

If we can be of any further assistance to you, feel free to email us anytime.

With Kindest Regards,
Donna Snyder, CEO
